Preface
Wood, nails, emails, audio. A conversation with strangers. It was a quiet process.
Description
“Didactic, totemic, and symbolic.”
Pronto Sabre Quién Soy or “Soon I will know who I am“, proposed an idea - a different notion of a relationship between artist and audience. From the months of February 2007 to March 2007, carefully written dialogs were posted anonymously online. Correspondence from the readers was gathered, text from their emails were printed on wooden sculptural objects, and a timeline of 30 days was composed.
A corresponding audio piece was composed. Found and environmental sounds were gathered, layered, and comprised the foundation of the piece as spoken dialog weaved in between. Additionally functioning as a timeline, the narrative appears and disappears depending on the what was said during those 30 days. Each day is two minutes.

Process played a significant part as 50 wooden, nail, objects were constructed by weather, time, dirt, dust, water, and other elements. A direct reference to African nail fetish objects played a role whether as a means of expressing my intentions of confronting “primitivist” confusions or as an indirect means of symbolically repelling elements in its conceptual setting.
